This is the shortest route with a trail. It is a hard hike. 10.3 km round trip. This trail requires a drive up a very poor road. 4x4, ATV or AWD with high clearance and skid plates. Take Oregon 7 (Sumpter Stage Hwy) towards sumpter, turn left on Oregon 410 towards sumpter (after Phillips Reservoir), go through Sumpter and on the other side turn right onto Cracker Creek Rd (towards Bourne) this turns into Forest Rd 5505. Take FR 5505 to the top. Use a GPS to stay on 5505 as there are a lot of turn offs. The beginning of the hike is on an old road (North Powder River Rd). Brook Trout fishing. This trail also goes past Meadow Lake (small lake). You can't see Meadow Lake but a GPS will show when you are close.

Very Hard Hike. 13 km round trip. We lost the trail with about 1/3 to 1/4 the distance to go and had to use GPS to find the lake. The initial part of the trail was very good. This hike starts at Red Mountain Lake Trailhead. Very bad road to the trailhead. We came back a different route to avoid a cliff but encountered a lot of very wet meadows.
